Babies for Sale

{Not the baby in the article}

I saw this article this morning, and it kind of freaked me out.

A young woman in India was forced to sell her newborn baby,in order to pay the medical expenses she had following the birth of the baby. It's really sad that medical aid is so expensive in today's society, that people have to sell of their own flesh and blood to be able to afford it.She sold the baby to a man for 6000 rupees. He and his wife are seemingly unable to have children of their own.

This is where the dilemma comes in for me.I would never sell my own child, but I sometimes think that certain countries make adoption by people outside of that country extremely difficult to do,which doesn't benefit anybody, much less the children that need loving homes to go to.

Like this baby. The baby has now been reunited with its mother, because the welfare wants her to breastfeed.Like that is reason alone to have this child grow up dirt poor, seeing as the mom admitted she has no way of caring for the baby.

I believe that baby would've been better off with the man and woman who are childless, who were willing to part with their hard earned money to have this baby, and are probably in a much better position to take care of the baby.

What do you think?

A bit of pregnancy and a side of a wedding for everyone!WTF?!

This picture incorporates both pregnancy and weddings,so it works out well

Listen,I have absolutely nothing against either of these things, and hope to one day do one,or if I'm lucky, both of these things. But right now,at the very beginning of this new year,I am being bombarded by announcements of impending weddings and joyful (and some not so joyful) pregnancies. It is just all too much for me to handle.Even my own sister is getting married in September. After hearing of the estimated 10 weddings happening (you have to remember,I live in a very small town) I even asked her to consider postponing the wedding to next year. She wouldn't listen, and the wedding is going ahead as previously scheduled.

Now, the pregnancies. Its like a fertility clinic in this town right now, with people getting pregnant left, right and centre.I'm beginning to feel very suspicious (and afraid) of the towns' water supply, because I'm starting to think this is some kind of mass by water-sterilization of the women in this town. For what purpose,I don't know.

Although I love children, and especially adorable babies (see my previous posts),I am so much happier when I get to spend a day with my niece and nephews, and when they get tired and cranky,to just be able to hand them right back to their parents, and be able to get a great nights' sleep. That arrangement is still working really well for me.

So if things get any worse (ie. I hear of any more weddings or pregnancies) I will be forced to lock myself in a bombshelter somewhere, because really,it is just ridiculous already.

My little Maya

Along with baby Ludwig,we had to entertain our 'baby',Maya, who is getting bigger by the week. She's starting to look like a little panther (or so I think) with her hair smoothing out a lot more now.She used to look like she had stuck her paw into a electric socket or something.

She climbed her very first tree on Saturday night, and couldn't get enough of it.Also, she loved having Ludwig at our place, and circled him the whole time, and as soon as he went to sleep,so did she.She played with him as well, but instinctively knew to be gentle with this small human, and she didn't scratch or bite him at all (which she wouldv'e done with me or JC,because she loves to play rough).Ludwig also thought this little black thingy was very entertaining, and he laughed himself silly at her.

Very adorable.

A very wet weekend

Nothing too extraordinary happened this weekend.Well, except that our bedroom got flooded.I was so shocked,I didn't even get my camera to take a few pictures.

The problem is that JC and I are kind still getting used to the new washing machine and its little quirks. This time, the pipe where the water comes out, slipped out of the sink and thus led to a water-filled bedroom (our apartment is so small, the washing machine has to be in our bedroom - how romantic).

JC obviously wasn't impressed at having to conduct such a major cleanup on a Sunday morning, but since it has been very hot lately,it all dried out pretty quickly, and by this morning, most of the water was gone.

On a nicer note,my sister and nephew are in town, and I am absolutely loving having them here.Ludwig is the most adorable boy,and is always smiling, and posing for the camera.Just my kind of boy.

Other than babysitting Ludwig so my sis could get a bit of much needed sleep,we just made a lot of food, and stayed indoors watching movies, because it was scorching outside. The old school aircon we have in our apartment was working overtime yesterday, poor thing.

The weather forecast showed temperatures of in the 40 degrees celsius for the whole week.

Yay!Can't wait, because I absolutely love feeling like a boiled (and thus sweaty) piece of meat.Very sexy.

Whazzup?It's weekend!

Basic plans for the weekend:
1.Eat too much
2.Talk too much
3.Sleep too little
4.Play with my nephew so his mother has trouble putting him to sleep
5.Make a chicken potjie and rice (yummy!)
6.Start reading my new book

And if,somewhere in my hectic schedule I get the time,I guess I'll have to clean the apartment again, although I have no problem living in some degree of filth.I wasn't born in the Chinese year of the Pig for nothing, you know.

Have a great weekend everyone, and stay safe!

Thought for the weekend

If fire fighters fight fires and crime fighters fight crime, what do freedom fighters fight?

My sister and nephew are coming!

Yay!I haven't seen my big sister and my nephew since he was baptised the first weekend of November,so I think it's about time that we get together again.Ludwig (my nephew) is 7 months old now,so he is getting to that really cute stage where they sit up,try to crawl and are basically all around cute. Can't wait to see them, unfortunately they are only coming tomorrow afternoon, because my sister still has to work til tonight, and maybe tomorrow morning as well.It would've been awesome if they could've come tonight already, just to have someone new to talk to again.
