I just had to share this pic of my kitty Lulubelle (who now lives with her Grandma J) sleeping in her very *comfortable* position.I guess she was busy down there, and just decided to take a nap.
And as a side note, here is Mattewis,a loner cat that has adopted the car dealership where I work,as home.My boss buys her the most expensive cat food, and dotes on her all the time. She basically lives in his office (he even has a little cat bed in there for her). This was one night after work,I was walking past my work place, and I saw Mattewis guarding the offices.I swear she's half dog somehow.

Thinking of my Dad
This is the way I remember my dad.Reading a book on the porch, listening to FM radio, with one or another cat keeping him company. This particular kitty is Poena, who, much to my dad (and my) sadness, died a few months later. So did my dad

My very un-Valentine's weekend (and Maya pictures!)
Like I predicted, this was not at all a very romantic or 'special' weekend, but rather, one like all the others.I was not in a good mood for most of it,and spent most of the time just relaxing at home and watching bad tv.The only time I really ventured outside the apartment, was on Saturday afternoon when my sister came and picked me up,and we spent the afternoon making her wedding invitations. She had decided early on not to waste money on getting someone else to make her invitations, seeing as they are keeping the wedding guests to the bare minimum (only about 40 people) so we decided that we would make the cards ourselves. As soon as they are completely finished,I will put up a picture of what they look like.Very plain and simple, but very cute.
Saturday night we went for a very quick drink (which I wasn't really in the mood for) and saw the end of the Bulls vs. Reds,Super 14 Rugby match, which the bloody Bulls won (I hate those guys). My team, the Stormers, lost by a mere 5 points to the Sharks,so I'm hoping it was just a shaky start and that by next weekend they will have recovered and proceed to kick some serious ass.
This week is going to be extremely hot, according to the weather services, and there have been lots of veld fires in the Western Cape, while the eastern and northern part of South Africa is basically drowning in all the rain.We are indeed having really strange weather for this time of year.Although the heat is a constant here where I live.I can't wait for winter.Seriously.
I took some new pictures of Maya, and just have to show you.She is getting so big,and is getting prettier by the day.She is really adorable, but we have decided to keep her in the apartment during the day when we are at work, because our next door neighbour is a big old grouch, and even though he has like 5 cats of his own (including 2 kittens),he actually had the nerve to say that Maya came into their apartment on Saturday and pee'd on his carpet.WTF?!Like there is no chance that it was one of his own cats that did it?And this after I explicitly told him that he should chace her away from his place if she bothered him. He's an asshole.

Ok,yes,I'm obsessed with cats
But seriously, try looking at this video and not laughing real hard,or falling in love with all these kitties (well, except that really evil-looking ginger cat in the cage).
PS:the little black kitten who is just so sleepy?Totally looks like my Maya.
Seriously,enjoy.

Some more Maya
She is getting so big!I put her new collar on yesterday, and its way too big,it goes around her neck 2 and a half times. But she doesn't seem to mind, and it looks like she particularly enjoys the little bell attached to it.I guess it's like a portable kitty toy to her.I still have to take pictures of her with it on,because she looks really pretty, and like a big cat with it on.Official.

I can be a bitch,but I love my pets
I can be a very bitchy person, sarcastic, pessimistic, and sullen.I don't even try to deny that anymore. But if there is one thing about me that is as certain as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west,I love my pets. All the pets from my past, the one I have now,and for sure the ones in my future.I love my pets with a strength that I rarely bestow on any humans (except for those very close to me).
Dogs and cats just have a certain kind of magic to them, that a lot of humans lack, and a lot of them certainly have better personalities than most humans.I have always had either a dog or cat,and can't imagine a home without either one.I get very emotionally attached and whenever a pet dies,I don't just get over it.I grieve as if it is a human family member I've lost.In school, after our cat (who was 15 yrs old when he died)died,I spent weeks combing over the Bible to see if I could find some kind of reference to whether or not animals' souls go to Heaven, because it broke my heart to think that I would never see him again. To this day I believe that all animals' souls do in fact go to Heaven, because they are pure, and devoid of evil.Whatever an animal does is for survival and out of instinct.Unlike humans.
So it should come as no surprise that I find the idea of memorialising your family pet in any way possible to be the best thing ever.I think people tend to underestimate the love some have for their pets, and make light of the death of a beloved pet.But this site proves that there are people who care.I think paying our last respects to man's best friends,is the least we can do for the love, respect, loyalty and entertainment they give us their whole lives.

My little Maya
Maya playing with Ludwig
Maya sleeping soundly
Maya climbing her first tree
Maya's mom
Maya sleeping with her little yellow mouse
Along with baby Ludwig,we had to entertain our 'baby',Maya, who is getting bigger by the week. She's starting to look like a little panther (or so I think) with her hair smoothing out a lot more now.She used to look like she had stuck her paw into a electric socket or something.
She climbed her very first tree on Saturday night, and couldn't get enough of it.Also, she loved having Ludwig at our place, and circled him the whole time, and as soon as he went to sleep,so did she.She played with him as well, but instinctively knew to be gentle with this small human, and she didn't scratch or bite him at all (which she wouldv'e done with me or JC,because she loves to play rough).Ludwig also thought this little black thingy was very entertaining, and he laughed himself silly at her.
Very adorable.

Ooh la la,it's Thursday, which means it's almost Friday!
As you can see,Thursday fever is getting to me,because we're that much closer to FRIDAY,my favorite day of the week!
And since I'm at this very moment in quite a good mood, and because when I'm in a good mood I always feel like laughing at something funny or seeing something cool,I've decided to show you somethings I thought were funny/cool.
Now,I know I don't always have the best sense of humor and by no means a very high IQ,but I sure hope you enjoy at least some of these.Because in my opinion, there is nothing better in this world than a good laugh (well...except really good sex, milk chocolate, pizza, catching up with your friends, sleeping late...)Ok,so there are lots of great things in life, but a good laugh is definitely in the top 10.
An hilarious game of 'guess who?" (that guy with the lisp is hysterical).
Oh yeah, this kid is gona be super popular in high school.
And last, but certainly not least, the ever popular LOL Cats (ok,I love 'em,so hush, and enjoy the cuteness)

Aren't cats supposed to be good at this?
I've had about 8 different cats in my lifetime. Not all mine, more like family pets, but 3 of them were mine alone.
My first one lady,Sammi,is extremely elegant and aloof.Like a cat version of a female Hitchcock character.Lulubell,my 7 month old spitfire,is more of a clumsy, clutsy Laurel and Hardy type of character.Sparky, who I only had for 4 months, until I moved out of my previous apartment, was a very lovable Care Bears-type cat,who was always up for a cuddle.
But even though the they all were extremely different characters, they all had one thing in common: they ate cleanly.By that I mean, they were typical cats that always look clean and pristine after they've eaten, because they meticulously clean themselves afterwards.
That brings me to Maya. The new addition to the family.Sparky lives with a new family now,and Sammi and Lulubell live with my Mom,since I felt it would be too hard on them to move now, because they both love my Mom WAY more than they do me.
Anyway, that means Maya is a kitten on her own.No older, wiser cat to teach her the ways of her ancestors. And I have to tell you,it shows. She is starting to get better at balancing herself on small spaces and climbing everywhere, because she is exploring the apartment a bit more (not that there's much to explore, but still).
But the one thing she sucks at,is cleaning herself after eating. She goes completely berserk when she gets her food. She climbs inside the bowl and will ride it like a pony until the bowl is completely devoid of food.Afterwards, she walks away from the food-area,looking all satisfied and happy with herself, like the fact that she ate all her food was like hunting a wild animal. She believes she is a master at 'catching' her food.It doesn't matter to her that the food really only lies there.
Well, the pictures could be after any meal, but these were specifically from last night. After every meal,a big piece of catfood is stuck to her nose, and it will stay there,no matter how much she licks, because like some kind of dumb-dumb,she can't seem to feel that there's a big chunk of food stuck there, and I am usually the one who has to take it off,and clean her up.My boyfriend won't,because he thinks it looks 'cute'.
Here's hoping her grooming skills will improve with age.

I cannot believe it's New Year already
this year has been a roller coaster of emotions and new experiences that have shaken me to the core sometimes.i've cried more this year than probably ever in my life, and yet,all of it wasn't bad.my father passing away has made me grow up a lot this year, leading to me and my boyfriend moving in together.now, anyone who knows my boyfriend, will know that him moving in with me is a miracle.he is a real mama's boy, although he will always deny that very strongly.but suffice it to say,he had a very comfortable life living at home, with everything being done for him like a little kid.he turned 30 this year for goodness sake!it was time he made a move.
as for me,i moved out of home for the first time in my life,at the age of 25,in march 2008.it was quite tough, and i realised quickly that me living completely on my own, wasn't going to be a success, ever.i become completely depressed and even though i love the independence,i've seen that i prefer living with at least one other person, just so that when the loneliness and blues are about to get too much, there will almost always be someone that i can just sit and relax with.because really, that's mostly all i need to make me feel better.no drug can take away my sadness.only good company.
i gained 3 cats this year, and basically lost 2 of them again.one ran away,he was the one i sort of 'inherited' along with my old apartment.he was the most lovable, amazing black cat you've ever seen, but after my apartment got flooded in july, and i had to move back in with my mother,he ran away, because he couldn't handle living with another fully grown female cat,as well as 3 dogs.also my best friends' cat had kittens, and she gave me the littlest one.so my eldest female cat,and the little one i got from my best friend, are now living with my mother at her house, because they both grew up there, and i just feel that if i took them away with me,and made them live in a small apartment, they would either act up very badly,or run away.and i don't want to take any chances like that.now i just buy them a months' supply of food at the beginning of every month, and they live with my mom.
my boyfriend got this new little one 2 weeks ago.although i didn't really put up much of a fight about keeping her.lol.what can i say?i love cats, and feel sorry for any cat having to live on the street.
anyway,i've gotten sidetracked by the cats, but like i said in the beginning, every year flies by faster and faster.my mom always says that the older you get,the faster time goes by.and i truly feel that is completely true.
i'm just thankful we all survived this year, and that we are not still in exactly the same situations we were in last year this time.some things have changed for the better, some for worse, but although i like things to stay the same all the time,i also understand that for life to be worth living, things have to change and evolve.i just hope and pray that 2009 will be a peaceful, interesting and fun year.i don't need another nail-biter like 2008!
